CDL Class A Driver
Cooksey Steel has an immediate opening for a CDL Class A Driver at the Tifton, GA location. The CDL Class A Driver is responsible for operating and transporting cargo (steel products) to suppliers, customers, storage, or processing locations in a professional, safe and timely manner in accordance with all local, state and federal ordinances and laws.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drives a 40 foot flatbed truck to transport and deliver materials
- Maneuvers trucks into loading and unloading positions.
- Operates company vehicle in a professional, safe and courteous manner and complies with all local, state and federal traffic regulations. Must complete the electronic daily log completed in compliance with FMCS regulations.
- Secures loaded cargo into truck; safely load & unload materials using a winch, hoist and/or forklift.
- Immobilizes or secures cargo on or within a vehicle by the use of tie-downs, chains, benders or straps.
- Tarps and straps all loads before transport and un-tarps and unstraps all loads at delivery locations.
- Inspects and maintains vehicle daily, complete driver's logs and reports in compliance with FMCSR daily.
- Picks up and accurately delivers merchandise and corresponding paperwork in a timely manner.
- Ensures customer messages/communications are relayed to appropriate management.
- Delivers paperwork and communications between Metals USA locations, customers and vendors.
- Notifies management of product discrepancies or malfunctions, and or personal injuries.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a CDL Truck Driver.
- Keeps a clean and well maintained delivery vehicle, internal and external.

CDL Driver
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 18 years of age
- CDL Class A License -- current and in good standing
- Must have heavy hauling experience
- 3- 5 years driving experience transporting heavy industrial loads
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical and random screens in accordance with FMCS regulations
- Must have attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to demonstrate professional & diplomacy at all times.
- Must have mechanical skills
- Must be proficient with Computer Literacy to include GPS and Electronic Daily Log system.
- Must represent the Company with strong customer service/relations aptitude
- Valid CDL Class A driver's license -- in good standing with the State and Federal Regulatory Agencies
- Valid OSHA Forklift Certification
- Candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
