How to Become an Innovative and Stand-Out Store Manager
Some might fear that retail jobs will eventually be no more due to the rise of e-commerce. However, there are still plenty of successful and viable brick and mortar stores out there, which means stores still need employees to fill retail jobs.
If you’re lucky enough to land a retail management position, you can develop a plan to be the best store manager you can be for the company and your team.
Come Up With Something New
As a store manager, come up with something new and beneficial for your store and team. Look into creating a low-cost and useful app, for example, that makes it easier for consumers to download coupons or see promotions. Employees could use it to track their schedules and time.

Make Employee Awards Fun
To keep your merchandising jobs filled, find ways to keep employee morale up. For example, do more than just have an “Employee of the Month” recognition. Maybe host a bowling event for all employees designated as “Employee of the Month” in a single quarter. Or, perhaps, the honor comes with a $100 gift card. The more fun and valuable you make the reward experience, the more you’ll be able to keep your retail management jobs filled and reduce turnover.
Continue Your Education
Stay up on your game as a retail manager by taking leadership and sales courses. Learn new trends in marketing to keep consumers coming in, and learn new leadership skills to be the best manager possible. These steps can help you build your business and team.
Immediately Respond to Customer Concerns and Complaints
If you read online reviews, you’ll see that, in many instances, as long as the companies respond respectfully to complaints, they’re able to retain the customer. Consumers like to know their voices are heard, so it speaks volumes when a store manager takes the time to respond to their complaints. Plus, consumers read reviews before they purchase or visit an establishment, and they’ll also respect you for positively handling a negative review.
Don’t Stop Networking
Sometimes, when we’re in a job we’re happy with, we let networking go to the wayside. However, it’s essential to continue to network online and offline, even when you’re in a retail management position you love. You never know when you’ll be ready to make your next career move or when someone else might approach you with a position that’s hard to refuse. Also, networking allows you to share your business to generate leads and sales, while also fostering brand awareness.
